Thank you to everyone who came out for our September 24 Building 33 Association meeting. We had a full agenda, some great resident participation, and plenty to talk about as we head into the fall.
We started the evening with something a little special. Residents came together for a group photo and short video message for Pedro, one of our former Building 33 porters who was reassigned to another building earlier this year. We wanted to send him a little Building 33 love and let him know that we're still thinking about him and that he is missed here in our building.
Carol Arthur, Building 35 President and Section 5 Association President, stopped by to share information about an upcoming free health screening on October 10. She spoke about her own experience with the screening and encouraged residents to take advantage of the opportunity.
We provided residents with an update on the Association's finances and a breakdown of where our money is going.
Before the meeting, 58 apartments had paid their 2026 Building Association dues, and several additional residents paid during the meeting, bringing us to 65 paid apartments by the end of the evening.
We also talked about our goal for the Association: to offer activities, programs, resources, and opportunities that appeal to residents of all ages—not simply traditional holiday activities.
Thank you to everyone who has paid the voluntary $10 annual Association dues, as well as those who have contributed additional donations.
Our new Free Little Library & Book Exchange is officially up and running in the Association room.
See something you'd like to read? Take it! Have books at home that you're finished with? Bring them down and help us keep the shelves stocked.
We're accepting fiction, nonfiction, children's books, educational books, and more.
We're also excited to launch The 33rd Lounge – where books & movies meet, a collaboration between the Building 33 Association and The Literary Lounge.
Our first community read is James Baldwin's If Beale Street Could Talk.

We asked residents what they thought about doing something right here in Building 33 for Halloween, and the answer was yes!
We're planning a Halloween green-screen photo booth and candy giveaway in the Association room. Come down in costume, take some fun Halloween photos, and enjoy the evening with your neighbors.
We're asking residents who would like to help to donate unopened, individually wrapped candy. We're also looking for volunteers to help us during the event.
More Halloween details will be announced soon.
Movie Nights are returning in October with a Halloween theme!
Our first October Movie Night will be Friday, October 16, and we're looking at adding another one later in the month.

We welcomed Alicia Simmons, Founder and CEO of Homeless Remedies, who spoke with residents about a proposed 12-week employment program.
The program is designed to help participants identify their strengths and goals, build confidence, prepare for employment, and receive assistance as they work toward returning to or advancing in the workforce.
Residents had an opportunity to ask questions about the program, including opportunities for older adults, people returning to the workforce, and those looking for part-time employment.
One important point from the discussion: despite the organization's name, the employment program is not limited to individuals experiencing homelessness.
We look forward to sharing additional information as plans for the program develop.
We also discussed starting a monthly themed gift basket raffle.
We have some very talented residents in Building 33, and we'd love to use these baskets as another opportunity to showcase that talent. If you craft, create, bake, design, or have something you'd like to contribute to a future basket, we'd love to hear from you.

Thank you to everyone who participated and supported the Building 33 Association!
We closed out the meeting with an active resident discussion covering several topics, including educational resources, check-washing concerns, package deliveries and package theft, and ideas for future Association meeting guests.
We also asked residents who they would like to hear from at future meetings. We'll continue working to bring representatives and information directly to Building 33 based on the issues residents want to discuss.
