Building 33 Association Meeting Recap
May 28, 2026
The Building 33 Association held its regular Association meeting on Thursday, May 28, 2026, with 16 attendees, including 13 residents and all three members of the Executive Board.
The meeting featured two guest speakers, updates on Association initiatives, upcoming events, election information, and discussion regarding building maintenance and quality-of-life concerns.
📢 Guest Speakers
Leslie Peterson, Riverbay Board Director and President of Building 13 Association, joined us to discuss the role and responsibilities of Riverbay Board Directors and to provide insight into how decisions are made within Co-op City.
Among the key points discussed:
• Riverbay Board Directors provide oversight, review policies, approve major projects, and vote on resolutions that impact the community.
• Directors do not manage the day-to-day operations of Co-op City. Instead, they review information, ask questions, evaluate proposals, and make decisions on behalf of shareholders.
• Residents were encouraged to review the "First Reading" resolutions published in the Co-op City Times. Leslie explained that this stage of the process provides an opportunity for shareholders to learn about proposed actions, ask questions, provide feedback, and share concerns before votes are taken.
• Shareholder participation and voting remain important parts of community governance.
• Preserving Co-op City's affordability and Mitchell-Lama status continues to be an important priority.
Leslie also answered questions regarding apartment transfers, governance, and other community concerns.
The Association also welcomed Felix Omozusi, candidate for New York State Assembly District 82.
Felix shared his background in community service and discussed several priorities that would guide his work if elected, including:
• Literacy and educational initiatives.
• Youth mentorship and after-school programs.
• Affordable housing.
• Healthcare access.
• Public safety and anti-gun violence efforts.
• Small business and economic development.
• Building stronger partnerships between elected officials and community organizations.
Felix encouraged residents to remain engaged in the civic process and emphasized the importance of community involvement.

🎲 Upcoming Events
Building 33 Game Night
The Association announced plans for a Building 33 Game Night on Saturday, June 13, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
The event will provide residents with an opportunity to socialize, meet neighbors, enjoy games, and spend time together in a relaxed setting. Light refreshments will be provided.
Section 5 Community Breakfast
Residents were also reminded about the Section 5 Community Breakfast scheduled for Saturday, June 13.
The event will feature breakfast, entertainment, music, and an opportunity for residents throughout Section 5 to gather and connect with one another.
The Association also continues to work toward a future Sip & Paint event once room improvements are completed.
🏦 Banking and Association Update
The Association has officially obtained an Employer Identification Number (EIN) under the registered name:
Building 33 Association of Co-op City
Prior to the Association meeting, the Executive Board approved the actions necessary to begin establishing a bank account and related financial infrastructure for the Association.
The Board continues to seek a volunteer Treasurer and encourages interested residents to contact the Association for more information.
💵 Building Dues Update
The Association discussed the status of Building Association dues.
To ensure proper financial controls and provide residents with convenient payment options, collection of dues will remain on hold until the Association's banking process has been completed.
The Board is also evaluating electronic payment options for future use.
🗳️ Riverbay Election Participation
Residents were reminded that voting is currently underway in the Riverbay Board of Directors election.
The meeting included discussion regarding voter participation and the importance of having Building 33 represented in community decision-making.
One statistic that generated significant discussion was that Building 33 had approximately 26% voter participation in the previous election cycle, placing it among the lower-performing buildings in Co-op City.
Residents were encouraged to complete and return their ballots and to encourage neighbors to participate as well.
🧹 Building Cleanliness and Maintenance
Residents discussed several building-related concerns, including:
• Garbage and litter.
• Stairwell cleanliness.
• Smoking-related issues.
• Common area maintenance.
• Outdoor benches and seating areas.
• Ongoing hallway plastering and painting work.
The discussion emphasized that maintaining a clean and welcoming building requires cooperation between residents and management.
Residents were encouraged to continue reporting concerns through the appropriate Riverbay channels and to document service requests whenever possible.
📝 Riverbay Contact Log
The Association introduced the Riverbay Contact Log, a tool residents can use to document service requests, work order numbers, department contacts, follow-up actions, and outcomes.
The goal is to help residents better track concerns and maintain records when additional follow-up is required.
🙏 Thank You
The Building 33 Association would like to thank everyone who attended the meeting, participated in the discussion, and continues to support efforts to strengthen our building and community.
We look forward to seeing residents at the upcoming Section 5 Community Breakfast and Building 33 Game Night on June 13.
